The three most popular brands of pressure cookers in Europe are Magefesa, Kuhn Rikon and WMF. All these are sophisticated devices that employ latest manufacturing techniques. Yet, each has its distinctive features that distinguish it from others. Here, let’s have a closer look at the design, features and price of each.
The Swiss make Kuhn Rikon Duromatic has been in business of cookware for more than seven decades and the New York Times labeled it as the Mercedes Benz among all pressure cookers, thus making it still more prestigious and reliable. Made from stainless steel, it incorporates the necessarily needed features for safety like automatic locking system and spring-loaded precision valve. Its bottom is sandwiched with solid thermal aluminum for quick heat absorption and allows browning too. Swiss craftsmanship and engineering certainly makes it highly durable. Depending on the size and model it could cost you anywhere from $150 to $300.
Magefesa is Spain based and a renowned manufacturer of pressure cookers, frying pans and other cookware for domestic and commercial purposes. Made from 18/10 stainless steel (chrome and nickel) the Magefesa comes with a thermal diffusion base, making it durable. This manufacturer accords top priority to safety and accordingly offers five safety features by way of easy locking system, safety valve, pressure regulating valve, red pressure sensor and a window. The price varies from $80 to $250, depending on capacity.
WMF is a German make and available in many models including perfect Plus and Perfect Ultra. These are made from unique heavyweight Cromargan 18/10 stainless steel enabling them to acquire polished mirror like finish. They offer safe and easy operation. The special features include ergonomically designed handle, flame prevention and cooking scale. Heavy duty rubber ring and clear pressure gauge provide the needed safety. Here again, the model and its size decide the price, varying from $200 to $250.
It’s not difficult for anyone to judge from above that all the European brands of pressure cookers have many common features. They are all expensive, made from stainless tell and accord priority to safety. All of these cookers are well designed with innovative styles and come with modern features.
All things considered ultimately choice of brand becomes a matter of personal preference. They can all be recommended, though more expensive. But, is not on priority when it comes to selecting an item to be used daily, as it pays for itself over a period of time, being a piece of durable equipment to be used in the kitchen.

Nice article. Thanks for the review and pointing out the differences.
thanks for the review, but i am a bit confused, how could it be that in this article the New York Times labeled Kuhn Rikon as the Mercedes Benz among all pressure cookers, and in other older article "Kuhn Rikon Pressure Cooker" "This and all other models from Kuhn Rikon have a reasonable price. They are somewhere in the middle when it comes to quality, price and the overall value they offer." and it is being compared to fagor, how could it be? thanks for the explanation
